About

'The coil' by Gavin Hipkins is a series of photograms, a style of cameraless photography used by Man Ray and Lee Miller in the 1920s, and also used by Len Lye. These particular photograms are made by resting polystyrene rings on photographic paper and exposing it to light. The artist has not specified a particular layout to the work, so the installation can potentially change each time it is hung.
