Darcy Lange: Study of an Artist at Work
In 2006 the Govett-Brewster developed the exhibition Darcy Lange: Study of an Artist at Work, a comprehensive survey of the work of New Zealand video pioneer Darcy Lange (Urenui, 1946-2005). Co-published with Ikon Gallery in Birmingham to coincide with their exhibition Work Studies in Schools, this publication documents and contextualises Lange’s strongest work from the 1970s and 1980s when he shifted away from sculpture and painting towards the more experimental media of video. Edited by Govett-Brewster curator Mercedes Vicente and featuring new scholarship on this important New Zealand artist, Darcy Lange: Study of an Artist at Work includes texts by Mercedes Vicente, Benjamin H.D. Buchloh, Guy Brett, Lawrence McDonald, John Miller and Geraldene Peters, Pedro G. Romero, and Dan Graham, as well as significant documentation of Lange’s work.
