In 1960s Naples, the head of a family disapproves of the decision by his 2 heirs and the Signora to sell their dilapidated old mansion.
Posillipo, Naples, in 1960, the beautiful once luxurious but now run-down mansion, Villa
Primic, has been put up for sale. Everyone in the family is in favour of the deal except the father of the family, Valerio (Massimiliano Gallo). Valerio’s wife, Signora Rose Primic (Margherita Buy) and their two children are convinced that despite beautiful views across the
bay to Capri, the time has come.
As an author, Valerio works from home and has become profoundly attached to the ancient villa. He begins to suspect that he does not truly know his loved ones as well as he imagined. We are drawn into the charm of this lovable, chaotic, exceptional family, including the housekeeper, played by the brilliant Marina Confalone. Perhaps Valerio has been too
preoccupied with his library of books and writings to understand how the family has changed.
Beautifully acted and under the direction of Alessandro Gassman, this is an adaptation of Maurizio De Giovanni’s acclaimed stage play.
