The feature directorial debut of successful screenwriter Stefano Sardo, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Valentina Gaia based on their novel Una Relazione, WITH OR WITHOUT YOU is a realistic and delicate reflection on the end of a relationship.
When Tommaso and Alice organise a dinner party, everyone thinks they will announce their
engagement. They have been a couple for over fifteen years, they own their own home in Rome but have no children…yet.
Tommaso is a musician, and Alice is an actress, both have never really reached the peak success they had dreamed of. Instead, they announce that they have decided to split up. Everyone thinks they are crazy. They plan to keep their relationship positive without the
heartache of a degenerating relationship. It certainly is an admirable ambition, but could it be naive? Does love end when romance ends? It is a very clever conceit for a romantic comedy
pitting ideas of romance against reality and the inevitable truth that people do indeed change,
and perhaps change is the only certainty we will face.
Maintaining a light touch throughout, Director Stefano Sardo keeps the necessary levity to explore massive romantic themes with wit.
