  • Surround yourself with traditional and contemporary Pakistani music, delicious nibbles from Ceylon, and delve deeper into a community conversation about language.

Food and music are often the first things we discover when exploring different cultures. We invite you to join us to consider what is ‘lost in translation’ in the hierarchy of languages associated with culture.

Surround yourself with traditional and contemporary Pakistani music, delicious nibbles from Ceylon, and delve deeper into a community conversation about language.

In connection to Aisha Khalid's exhibition I Am And I AM Not join us as we explore other languages and cultures through kai, music, and speakers to get the kōrero going.

Speakers include:

  • Amna Haroon, native Urdu speaker
  • Keri Opai, author and reo Māori champion
  • Laura Rosado, Colombian and native Spanish speaker

  • Martha Desimone, Argentinean and native Spanish speaker

  • Aidan Williams, rangatahi Russian speaker

Come and share how much your language makes you who you are, or are not.

Ko tōku reo tōku ohooho, ko tōku reo tōku māpihi maurea.

My language is my awakening, my language is the window to my soul.

Professor Tīmoti Kāretu
