Join us for Te Wiki o te Reo Māori & Mahuru Māori in the Gallery this September - an opportunity to learn the Māori language and acknowledge the importance of Māori culture.

All gallery programmes are free of charge, with the exception of the Monica Brewster Evening with Libby Hakaraia.

Monday 12 Sept | 10 AM - ish | Free
Pop-up / Travelling Waiata Group:
Join in with a travelling waiata group, gracing a few hot spots of downtown New Plymouth.
At around 10am, the group of travelling singers will arrive and spontaneous song will bring the gallery to life. Think carolling in te reo Māori.

Join us for an uplifting mid-week waiata session. We’ll provide songbooks, you bring your interest. You’ll hear old favourites and maybe learn a new waiata. No prior singing experience necessary.

Monica Brewster Evening: Libby Hakaraia:
Join Libby Hakaraia (Ngāti Kapu, Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga) founder of the Māoriland Film Festival as she shares insights into the Festival (which is now the largest in person international Indigenous film festival in the world) the hub it has grown, as well as their mahi developing rangatahi story tellers, creatives and entrepreneurs.
