On occasion of Lalaga Pasifika, join us for an Artist Talanoa.

Join Ella Tiafau Loheni Stancil in conversation with tattooist Tyla Vaeau, as the pair discuss all things ‘Malu’, traditional female tatau.

Tyla Vaeau is an artist and Tufuga tā tatau practitioner of Samoan (Sale'a'aumua, Aleipata and Safune, Savai'i) and Pakeha descent. She has a long-standing passion for all forms of Pacific art, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Elam School of Fine Arts in 2009 and a BA Honours in Art History in 2011. Her ongoing passion for art and culture was met by a calling from her family and community to take up tatau. With a strong knowledge of Pacific art history she specialises in contemporary Polynesian designs that have their roots in the customary patterns of the past.

Ella Tiafau Loheni Stancil. Ella recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts and is now working for Pacific Media Network as well as running her own private tutoring for Siva Samoa. She is a strong advocate for the preservation and protection of traditional practices and custom through performing arts, storytelling and language.
