Join our Len Lye curators for a tour of the current Len Lye exhibitions – Wand Dance and Tangibles: 1963-1969.

Tangibles: 1963-1969 is the second instalment of our chronological survey of Lye’s “tangible motion sculpture”, the artist’s unique take on ‘art that moves’ and includes well-loved works such as Universe, Storm King and Witch Dance.

The tour concludes with one of Len’s most ambitious and thrilling projects, Wand Dance. Modelled on the smaller tangible Witch Dance (1965), Wand Dance shares the idea of six figures dancing around a singular central figure. Scale enters the mix when the larger work is realised, with Lye’s three metre Bell Wand (1965) becoming the dominant figure leading the dance.

Walking among the seven wands, you’ll experience one of Lye's most absorbing projects yet, immersed in sound, movement and scale, be surrounded by his dancing figures as if inside a dance itself.

Get specialist insight from the curators of the show, offering a new perspective into the life and creation of these works.
