Join exhibiting filmmaker Steve Cossman in making your own 'direct film'.
Get experimental like Len Lye and the artists in the exhibition Free Radicals: Cinema on the Wrong Side of the Tracks and join filmmaker Steve Cossman from Mono No Aware of New York as he leads a workshop making your own ‘direct’ film.
In this workshop students will learn to manipulate the surface of the film using a variety of direct filmmaking techniques: painting, scratching, and masking in order to create an experimental film on 16mm. Participants will walk away with hands-on experience of direct filmmaking, a finished film work, and the knowledge to continue to work in this practice at home. All materials are provided.
Friends and family are invited to join in for the screening in the Len Lye Centre Cinema at 4.30pm.
