In close relation to Ruth Buchanan’s exhibition The scene in which I find myself / Or, where does my body belong, the Uneven Bodies symposium will act on the imbalances exposed by Buchanan’s show, and search for considered and forward-thinking approaches to collections locally and around the world. The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery will host discussions on collecting Māori and Indigenous art, deaccession policy and institutional responsibility, repatriation and cultural ownership, and collecting impulses outside the institution.

Linda Tuhiwai Smith and Clémentine Deliss will deliver keynote addresses. Speakers include Wanda Nanibush, Megan Tamati-Quennell, Jenny Harper, Christina Barton, Lana Lopesi, Amber Aranui, WharehokaSmith, Steve Gibbs and Eloise Wallace.

Tickets include Gallery and exhibition admission for the whole weekend, an opening reception, coffee and tea throughout the programme, and catered lunch on Saturday. The full programme will be live-streamed inside the Gallery, where it can be viewed free of charge by non-ticket holders.
