The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre is open and we look forward to seeing you.
Len Lye’s Sky Snakes is on view alongside some of his iconic sculptures, while a comprehensive survey of his film practice - The Absolute Truth of the Happiness Acid – is open in the remainder of the Len Lye Centre.
In August, we debut Candice Lin's first solo show in New Zealand, Pigs and Poison.
Our cinema and public events are regaining momentum, and ready for your next visit.
Len Lye's monumental new work, Sky Snakes, is on view in the Len Lye Centre, alongside some of his iconic kinetic sculptures.
We are also presenting The Absolute Truth of the Happiness Acid, the most comprehensive survey of Len Lye’s film practice exhibited at the Gallery, with some fascinating insight into his film-making techniques and tools.

The Len Lye Cinema has reopened to help satisfy your art house cinema cravings. Take a look at our Cinema page for screenings and booking information.
Our comprehensive menu of Public Programmes offer everyone an opportunity to engage with the Gallery and its exhibitions. In addition to the digital programme we have maintained throughout alert levels, we are relaunching our in-Gallery events.

Visiting the Gallery and Cinema
All Gallery visitors and cinema goers will be asked for their details on entry to enable contact tracing, which remains a condition under Alert Level 1.
We also ask that:
- If you are feeling unwell, please stay home and visit us another time.
- You utilise contactless payment where possible.
- Where possible, you book cinema tickets online ahead of the screening. Booking options are located on the film listing page.
- You adhere to the guidelines around personal hygiene and safety.
- We’ll ensure that the Gallery and any contact points are kept clean, and continue to offer hand sanitiser to our visitors.
The Gallery online
Our public programming team continue to bring online content to audiences near and far, as it has been during Level 3 and 4.
The famed Monica’s Eatery is also open again, from 6.30am – 3.30pm weekdays, and 7.30am – 3.30pm on weekends and public holidays.
