COVID-19 - Alert Level 2

Following the Government’s announcement on the COVID-19 alert levels, and for the safety of our audiences, artists, staff and community, the Govett Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre will be moving into Alert Level 2 from midday today.

Read on to find out about the changes we have put in place, in order to remain open safely.

The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre will remain open to the public under Alert Level 2.

There will be changes to the way we operate as we continue to Play it Safe and welcome visitors to a safe environment.

 

Exhibitions

Our current exhibition suites remain open:

Candice Lin's first solo show in New Zealand, Pigs & Poison, Len Lye's The Absolute Truth of the Happiness Acid and Sky Snakes.

Len Lye Cinema 

The Len Lye Cinema will remain open.

Govett-Brewster Shop

The Govett-Brewster Shop remains open. We have made preparations to make your shopping experience safe under Alert level 2. 

Treat yourself, a family member or a friend from our great selection of books, stationary, homewares, jewellery and cool kids’ stuff.

Your purchase plays a vital part in enabling the Gallery to continue its exciting exhibitions and public programming. 

 

Visiting the Gallery from 12 August

Your visit will be a bit different at the moment. Our Visitor Services staff will be asking all gallery visitors for their details upon entry, to enable contract tracing:

 - We will be asking everyone - visitors and staff - to keep at least 2 metres from people you don’t know

 -  If you are feeling unwell, please stay home and visit us another time.

 -  We will be running at a reduced capacity to allow for social distancing

 -  We are asking for contactless payment where possible

There might be a queue to get in at times, so thank you for your patience and kindness.

Galleries and surfaces will be cleaned daily, with high trafficked areas attended to on an ongoing basis.

 

Visiting the Len Lye Cinema from 12 August

As with all gallery visitors, cinema goers will be asked for their details on entry to enable contact tracing:

-  If you are feeling unwell, please stay home and visit us another time.

-  We will be running at a reduced capacity to allow for social distancing

-  We are asking for contactless payment where possible

- The seating plan has been changed to ensure adequate distance between guests in every session.

- The cinema space will be cleaned frequently, with high traffic areas attended to on an ongoing basis.

- Where possible, we encourage ticket bookings to be made online.

There might be a queue to get in at times, so thank you for your patience and kindness.

 

FAQS

Will the Gallery re-open under Level 2?

The Gallery will remain open to the public from 12 August 2020.

Normal opening times and admission charges apply.

Monica’s Café will also be open.

 

What exhibitions can I visit?

All our gallery spaces are currently open. 

In these spaces, you will be able to view Candice Lin's Pigs and Poison, as well as Len Lye's Kinetics, Sky Snakes and The Absolute Truth of the Happiness Acid

How will the Gallery remain safe to visit under Alert level 2?

We’re currently working through plans of how we can re-open safely for visitors and staff, under the safe working rules for Alert Level 2.

In line with MoH guidelines, Gallery staff are following basic precautions, such as social distancing, and we just ask that our visitors do this as well.

Our staff will be on hand to provide advice and answer any questions you may have.

 

How will the Cinema remain safe to visit under Alert Level 2?

In line with MoH guidelines, staff are following basic precautions, such as social distancing, and we just ask that our cinema visitors do this as well. Our staff will be on hand to provide advice and answer any questions you may have.

Our Front of House staff will increase the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting of all high traffic areas and commonly-touched surfaces throughout the day. The cinema space, including seats and door handles will be cleaned before and after screenings.

 

How much spacing will there be between cinema seats?

The seating plan has been changed to ensure adequate distance between guests in every session. The spacing is every other seat, which enable social distancing of 1 metre between each.

 

Can I book cinema tickets at the Gallery?

We encourage our patrons to purchase tickets online where possible. All listings and online bookings can be made via our Cinema page.

 

Is there a limit to the number of tickets I can book for a screening?

Tickets can be booked up to the capacity of available seating. The maximum group size is 10 upon entry to the Gallery. Multiple ticket bookings can be made, but please note, patrons will be seated individually, spaced at least a seat apart, so there will be no group seating available.

 

How do I find out if an event / public programming will be rescheduled or postponed?

We will inform you once any events are scheduled or any public programming restarts - please see our website for latest updates in the meantime.
