Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre Photography Policy
Non-flash photography and filming is allowed in the galleries for personal, non-commercial purposes only. While there is no cost for this, donations are appreciated.
In some exhibitions, photography and filming are completely prohibited. A sign at the entrance will make this clear. No photography or filming is allowed of artworks in areas displaying the ‘no-photography’ sign.
No photographs or video footage may be reproduced, distributed, or sold without permission from Govett-Brewster Art Gallery.
The use of tripods, flash and selfie-sticks is prohibited. Check with one of our visitor hosts if in doubt.
News media please give us notice of your intended visit.
Naming/credits/copyright
When describing the location of the photo, please ensure you use the correct naming.
Our name is first and foremost Govett-Brewster Art Gallery and the Len Lye Centre is a part of it.
For photos that focus on the Len Lye Centre part of the building, it would be named the Len Lye Centre at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery, or combine them as Govett-Brewster Art Gallery/Len Lye Centre.
The architects have copyright on the new (Len Lye Centre) part of the building so they ask that they are acknowledged, eg the Len Lye Centre, designed by Patterson Architects.

The rules for when shooting
Works of art cannot be touched or moved.
Some artworks will not be allowed to be filmed or photographed because of copyrights. A gallery representative will advise you on these artworks.
A maximum of two light sources are to be used, unless authorised by the gallery. Lights must not shine directly onto an artwork and are to be shut off except when actual photography is taking place.
All light stands or similar equipment are to be placed a minimum of 1.5 metres away from any artwork. All equipment on stands must be placed at a distance that is greater than their height away from any artwork.
All cables are to be positioned so as to not constitute a tripping or other hazard
There is no consumption of food or drink allowed in the gallery spaces
No chemicals or hairsprays are to be used in the galleries
If any extraordinary costs are incurred by filming or photography in the galleries, these costs will be on-charged
For insurance purposes, gallery staff will be required to oversee the photography or filming where lighting tripods or other equipment is used
The gallery reserves the right to change any arrangement if our representative believes that works of art are being put at risk
