Ralph Hotere Black Paintings 1–7
Fri 22 Sep – Sun 3 Dec 2017
Ralph Hotere’s Black Paintings (1968–69) were the first works acquired for the Govett-Brewster Collection. They remain at the cutting-edge of minimal geometric abstraction painting produced in New Zealand and foreground conversations between Māori and European aesthetics and consciousness.

Projection Series #7: First as fiction, then as myth
Sat 26 Aug – Sun 12 Nov 2017
We present three recent films by Ursula Mayer (AT/UK), Oscar Enberg (NZ/DE), and Martine Syms (US) that collapse distinctions between biography, fiction and myth.
Curated by Tendai John Mutambu and Sophie O’Brien

David Clegg: loca projects / correction
Sun 6 Aug – Sun 5 Nov 2017
loca projects / correction is an ongoing project that tests reading and listening. The work assembles recent photography, sound recordings and text from a variety of times and places, gathered in New Plymouth, Christchurch and Vienna in response to the writing of Thomas Bernhard and Sergio Chejfec. The exhibition has been made in two stages: the second iteration opening this weekend.

Len Lye: Happy Moments
Sat 5 Aug – Sun 26 Nov 2017
Key works from the Len Lye Foundation Collection and Archive, captured in their historical moment. Beginning with Lye’s well-known kinetic masterpiece Universe and its appearance in Bounding Steel Sculpture in 1965 at the Howard Wise Gallery, New York, we take a journey through three key exhibitions.
