In How to Dress for Local Conditions: Liz Allan offers a series of projects related to notions of keeping in step, learning the basics, or slipping into the social fabric of a place. Based around the stories of Taranaki people and communities, Allan elaborates on the histories, moments and distinctive features that residents of the region wish to identify with, promote and share.

Liz Allan was the Govett-Brewster New Zealand Artist in Residence in 2008. This publication features essays by Melanie Oliver and Emma Bugden, with a foreword by Director Rhana Devenport.
