How can art help our environment?

Ākonga visiting Toiaa Taiao: Whiria ko te iwi tuna will be inspired to create art that calls for environmental action. This immersive exhibition centres on a local awa and highlights what becomes possible when a videographer, a composer, and a river guardian work together to protect our waterways.

Students explore how science, art, and te ao Māori knowledge systems can combine to deepen understandings of awa health—and how these insights can be translated into artworks with thought-provoking messages. At the gallery, they experiment with bio-charcoal drawing, a hands-on activity they can extend into other media once back at school.
