Bring your students on an inspiring tour of New Plymouth’s Huatoki Plaza murals, where they'll delve into the What? How? and Why? of street art. This hands-on experience offers a unique opportunity to explore the power of public art while fostering creativity and environmental awareness.

What students will experience:

  • Tour the Murals: Discover the stories behind the stunning murals of Huatoki Plaza, exploring the techniques, themes, and messages they convey.
  • Design Your Own Mural: Walk up to the Gallery to design a school mural with a powerful environmental message, or head to the walkway near the Wind Wand to create chalk masterpieces.
  • Engage with Street Art: Learn how street art is used as a form of expression and communication in public spaces.

This is an exciting, creative opportunity to get your students thinking about art, environment, and community, while creating temporary artworks that will leave a creative mark!

Get inspired by Len Lye’s exhibitions and Fibrous Soul discovering how sound can take us on a journey. Find out about taonga pūoro and use natural materials to generate sound experiments evoking places and emotions.

Record these experiments as visual art then in our studio groups perform these as sound compositions. Teachers BYO phone / ipad to video.
