Introduce your students to the vibrant world of Pacific fibre arts exhibited in Lalaga Le Hui Fono. Explore the geometry, techniques, and stories behind Tongan ngatu (bark cloth) and other arts from Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa (Pacific Ocean) and gain a deeper understanding of Pasifika culture and traditions.
What students will do:
- Collaborative Design: In groups, students will create a mural inspired by Tongan ngatu, reflecting Pasifika knowledge and the natural world.
- Learn Techniques & Geometry: Students will explore the designs and techniques used in Pacific fibre arts.
- Cultural Connection: Students will connect with the stories and symbolism embedded in these traditional art forms.

At school:
- Find out about the variety of bark cloth from different Pasifika nations
- Use maths language to talk about bark cloth and weaving designs then use this to inspire dance moves

- Learn simple kupu or waiata from a Pasifika nation
