Sound Colour Moves

Available: 17 May 2025 – 16 March 2026
Year level: NE – Y6
Duration: 75 mins

What is multi-sensory art and why do artist create it? How can sound control or inspire our movements?
Len Lye loved Body English, what is it?

Offer your students the opportunity to explore connections between sound, art, and movement. Inspired by Direct Bodily Empathy - Sensing Sound we catch Len Lye’s vibe for dancing colours and get energised by objects that resonate with movement ideas. The exhibition includes resonant objects, kinetic sculptures, experimental films, and visual music, bringing together historical works by Len Lye and new creations by contemporary artists from Aotearoa and beyond. Inspired by the exhibition, students invent individual, and group moves focusing on dance elements, which are captured on a poster for further learning.

In our Learning Centre
Students invent individual and group moves then choreograph into a class dance that’s triggered by sound and controlled in various ways.
