Pacific artists invited to apply for new Aniva Residency in 2025
Creative New Zealand and Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre have teamed up to offer a new Pacific Aniva Artist Residency in 2025, which will see an Aotearoa-based Pacific artist or practitioner who identifies as LGBTQIA+/MVPFAFF+ gain a paid, three-month fellowship based at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre in Ngāmotu New Plymouth.
The Residency will enable the selected practitioner to undertake a paid, three-month fellowship based at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre in Ngāmotu New Plymouth, to create a new body of work.
Applicants must have a record of artistic practice, have had at least one public work and/or one solo exhibition, and have expertise in any one of the following areas: visual art, heritage art, design, digital art, writing, public programming, performance or production, or curating.
Who is eligible to apply?
- Artist of Pacific Islands heritage
- Identify as LGBTQiA+/MVPFAFF+
- Permanent resident or citizen of Aotearoa New Zealand
- Applicants currently defaulting on any Creative New Zealand Funding will not be eligible to apply.
What will be provided through the residency?
- An artist fee of $18,000 ($6000/month) over three months
- A domestic travel budget to and from Ngāmotu New Plymouth of up to $1000
- Accommodation of up to $3000
- Material/project costs of up $2000
- A local artist/creative mentor. The mentor can be nominated by the successful applicant, subject to conversations with CNZ, the Govett-Brewster, and the nominated mentor.
Commitments of the residency
- The successful applicant can be based in Ngāmou or work remotely. The artist will be required to present a new body of work. We are seeking applicants who are willing to engage and share their work with local Pacific LGBTQiA+/MVPFAFF+ communities.
Timeline
- Applications open: 7 February 2025
- Applicant talanoa session (online): 5.00pm, 5 March 2025
- Applications close: 5.00pm, 17 March 2025
- This will be followed by application assessments, and interview of a short list
- Residency dates are flexible by agreement between the artist, CNZ and GBAG/LLC
