Gallery publication wins award
The Gallery’s catalogue for the 2024-25 exhibition Interlaced: Animation and Textiles has won a prestigious Art Writing and Publishing Award from the Art Association of Australia & New Zealand for Best Medium Exhibition Catalogue.
The Awards highlight the vitality of arts publishing across the Australasian region and acknowledge the contributions of both emerging and established scholars, curators and artists.
The Awards play a pivotal role in promoting the importance of writing and publishing in disseminating knowledge and understanding of the visual arts, craft and design. They are the only prizes in the Australasia region to celebrate the publishing achievements writers make to the field.
Sponsored by the Australian Institute of Art History, University of Melbourne, the Best Medium Exhibition Catalogue category was judged by Dr Wendy Garden and Dr Karen Hall.
The judges noted the catalogue to Interlaced: Animation and Textiles “developed a compelling and sustained argument for a reciprocal relationship between handmade film and textiles, oriented by Indigenous ways of making and thinking. It was supported by strong design choices that emphasised the interweaving of disciplinary practices across digital and analogue terrains.”
We congratulate and acknowledge the immense efforts of the exhibition’s curator and publication author Alla Gadassik, along with the publication designer Tana Mitchell, project manager Anna Briers, and the wider team of contributors, and thank the Art Association of Australia & New Zealand for their recognition.
Copies of the catalogue are available from the Gallery store.
