2026 French Film Festival proves popular
The 2026 French Film Festival, shown exclusively in Taranaki at the Len Lye Centre Cinema, proved popular with local audiences, with over 2,900 attendees at the festival’s 90 screenings of 23 classic and contemporary French films.
Across the festival, 12 screenings sold out, with weekend screenings most popular.
“The Len Lye Centre Cinema is Taranaki’s home to film festivals showcasing Italian, French, Latin American and Spanish, and German cinema, as well as the New Zealand International Film Festival, Surf Film Festival, and more,” says the Gallery’s cinema programmer Alastair Ross.
“We work with an amazing range of film experts, cultural institutions, sponsors and partners to bring festivals to Taranaki, but it is ultimately up to our region’s cinema lovers to ensure they are successful, and they’ve certainly done that with this year’s French Film Festival.”
“We thank our loyal film fans for their support, and look forward to sharing future festivals with them,” Alastair says.
The next film festival at the Len Lye Centre Cinema is the New Zealand International Film Festival, from 27 August to 9 September 2026.
