Gallery announces new Director and Cultural Experiences leadership
The Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre is pleased to announce the appointment of Megan Dunn as Director, alongside the recent arrival of Tracy Puklowski as Manager of Cultural Experiences for New Plymouth District Council.
Megan Dunn will lead the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre, bringing extensive experience across contemporary art, museum practice and audience engagement. She joins the organisation from her role as Special Projects Curator at Experience Wellington, and has an established career as a curator, writer, commentator and project manager.
With longstanding connections to the Govett-Brewster, including exhibiting and contributing to public programmes, Megan combines deep sector knowledge with a strong commitment to connecting audiences with contemporary art.
Megan will take up the role on 20 July 2026, completing the leadership structure for the Cultural Experiences group and positioning the Gallery for its next phase of strategic development.
Joining her in the wider leadership team is Tracy Puklowski, who has recently begun as Manager of Cultural Experiences. Tracy brings significant executive experience across the cultural and public sectors in both Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia, with a focus on inclusive leadership and community-centred cultural development. Tracy’s previous roles include Director of the Queen Victoria Museum and Gallery (QVMAG) in Tasmania, Director of the National Army Museum/Te Mata Toa, as well as a range of senior roles at the Museum of NZ/Te Papa Tongarewa. She is a graduate of the competitive Getty Leadership Institute’s Museum Leadership Institute (MLI) programme.
In her strategic role, Tracy oversees Cultural Experiences across the district, including Puke Ariki Museum and Libraries, the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery | Len Lye Centre, and visitor and community engagement functions.
Together, these appointments strengthen the Cultural Experiences leadership team and support a renewed focus on delivering meaningful, relevant and accessible cultural experiences for local communities, visitors, and the art sector as a whole.
"It is a tremendous privilege to have oversight of some of the country’s most loved and respected cultural institutions, and the magnificent taonga held within," says Tracy. "I look forward to working with our exceptional team to keep delivering experiences that engage, delight, and provoke."
"Through the creation of the Cultural Experiences unit, New Plymouth District Council has recognised the vital role that arts and culture plays in this liveable and vibrant city, and I commend this visionary approach."
