About
In the Bible, Golgotha is the place outside Jerusalem where Jesus was crucified. This drawing was directly inspired by the 'Stations of the Cross' exhibition which was held at the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery during Easter 1981. This was an exhibition of work by contemporary New Zealand artists on the theme of the crucifixion of Christ.
Harris was born in Akaroa and spent much of his childhood on a dairy farm. He had no art school training and says that he learned about art from reading art books. He sees himself as working within the tradition of the Old Masters, and often reinterprets traditional biblical subjects such as the crucifixion.
