Christine Hellyar has always been interested in how people make use of the environment around them; how landscapes have been changed, how objects have been fashioned for use or given magical significance. During a trip overseas, Hellyar visited the Museum of Scotland and was fascinated by the ancient tools and artefacts she saw there. This drawing invites comparison with museum displays, particularly as it is, too, displayed behind glass.

This work is related to two of Hellyar's sculptures which are in the Gallery's collection: 'Cloak cupboard' and 'Dagger cupboard'.
