Face the music

Mutch often deals with environmental issues in his work. Here, he is saying that we all have to 'face the music' about what we are doing to the environment. The dog symbolises the power of big corporations: dogs hunt in packs, so none can be blamed individually for the kill. Likewise, commercial companies avoid responsibility for the exploitation and pollution of the environment. The ladder suggests that technical 'progress' cannot be supported infinitely by environmental resources. The last step on the ladder is probably a reference to Mt Taranaki, and refers to the Christian trinity as well.
