About
Jim Speers plays with legacies of minimal conceptual sculpture in combination with architecture in his work. The title of the work reminds us of the Fokker 'Friendship', the backbone of the Air New Zealand domestic fleet for 20 years - at the height of the minimalist era in the 1970s.
Speers borrows the light box techniques of advertising. A seductive, easy ambience usually reserved for cigarette vending machines and shop fron signage is used here to create a softly luminous square of abstraction.
